Ipswich Town face competition from Nottingham Forest and Bristol City to keep hold of defender Jordan Spence, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Spence’s contract at Ipswich expires at the end of the season after joining the club on a short-term deal in January.

The former England Under-21 defender joined Ipswich on a free transfer after initially leaving MK Dons the previous summer.

Spence has impressed at Ipswich since arriving at Portman Road and has been a virtual ever-present in Mick McCarthy’s side, making 16 appearances since January.

Ipswich have expressed an interest in keeping Spence by offering him a new deal to extend his stay at the club.

However, Spence’s form has not gone unnoticed elsewhere with several of Ipswich’s Championship rivals monitoring his situation in Suffolk.

Nottingham Forest and Bristol City are both in the market for defensive reinforcements this summer, and they are ready to make a move for Spence if Ipswich fail to secure his signature on a new long-term deal.
