Steve Cook celebrates scoring Bournemouth's third goal in the 4-3 win against Liverpool
Watford want to sign Bournemouth central defender Steve Cook in the summer, according to a report.
Watford are not short of centre-halves but could certainly do with getting younger at the position as Younes Kaboul, Adrian Mariappa, Sebastian Prodl and Miguel Britos will all be in their 30s when next season begins.
Craig Cathcart and Christian Kabasele, the latter of whom has been used only sparingly since arriving last summer, are 28 and 26 respectively.
Cook has shown durability that the likes of Younes Kaboul can't rival
While Cook may well make sense as a signing for Watford, despite being a key component of the Premier League’s third most leaky defence, whether he would be interested in the move remains to be seen.
He is settled at Bournemouth, having been at the club for six seasons now dating back to their time in League One, and signed a contract extension last May to keep him at the Vitality Stadium until 2019.
Cook has never been capped by England
Cook is also a key member of the team, playing every minute of their Premier League campaign this term.
Given the Cherries sit just two points behind Watford, three places worse off, it would also be hard to argue the move is a step forward.
