Since being shipped out of Goodison Park on loan, the winger has earned a Spain recall and ripped up Serie A with AC Milan.

As Everton fans will testify, it isn’t often manager Ronald Koeman gets things wrong with the Toffees, who are safely assured of finishing seventh in the Premier League, barring an implosion of biblical proportions.

With Manchester United defeating Southampton in the League Cup and with four of the top six facing off in the FA Cup semi finals, seventh place will open up a Europa League spot, which would cap off a tremendous season for Everton.

However, Koeman has made some mistakes at Goodison Park, and one of them was being too hasty in his judgement of former FC Barcelona winger Gerard Deulofeu, who has proved the Dutch manager wrong in spectacular style.

Since joining AC Milan on loan in January, having made just four Premier League starts for Everton this season, Deulofeu has taken Serie A by storm with two goals and three assists in 12 games, earning a Spain recall in the process – a recall which the 23-year-old promptly scored in.

Deulofeu’s rise has caught the eye of his former club Barcelona, who inserted a buy-back clause in his Everton contract and are now debating whether to exercise it or not, as reports BBC Sport.

While Everton’s on the pitch form has hardly suffered without Deulofeu, his personal performances have since suggested that had the Toffees kept him and utilised him correctly, Goodison Park would have benefitted from his outstanding talent.
