Norwich City and Sheffield United are among the clubs keen on the 25-goal striker, HITC Sport understands.
John Marquis in action for Doncaster Rovers
Doncaster Rovers striker John Marquis has delivered a blow to clubs hoping to prise him away from the Keepmoat Stadium this summer.
HITC Sport understands that a number of higher division clubs including Norwich City and Sheffield United are eyeing Marquis as a priority signing this summer.
The 26-goal striker’s contract with Rovers, who sealed their promotion back to League One last weekend, expires at the end of next season.
However, Marquis told BBC Radio Sheffield: “I’ve got a year left on my contract and it would be nice to sit down and sort a new one out,”
“There’s no reason why I would want to go anywhere else, my football has come on so much.
“My tactical knowledge of the game has improved, my technique has improved and that is purely down to the manager (Darren Ferguson).”
Norwich’s promotion push is all but over despite last week’s 7-1 drubbing of Reading, and a summer overhaul is expected at Carrow Road following Stuart Webber’s appointment as sporting director.
However, the presence of Marquis’ old boss Chris Wilder at Rovers’ local rivals Sheffield United, who were promoted from League One last weekend, could convince Marquis to choose the Blades instead, were he to experience a change of heart about his future.

The 25-year-old former Millwall man was loaned to six different clubs before his permanent move to Doncaster in June last year.
Should Norwich City/Sheffield United be deterred by Marquis’ comments?
