The Southampton defender left Chelsea in 2015 and has gone on to showcase his wonderful talent.
Popular bookmakers SkyBET have slashed the odds on Chelsea bringing Saints star Ryan Bertrand back to the club in the summer, installing them as second favourites in the race to sign the left-back.
Antonio Conte is believed to be after another left-sided defender, who can compete with and provide cover for Marcos Alonso in the wing-back role next season.
The 27-year-old made the move to St Mary’s from Stamford Bridge in February 2015, for a fee believed to be in the region of £10 million, and has since gone on to establish himself as one of the Premier League’s finest full-backs.
And SkyBET have dramatically installed his former club as 4/1 second favourites in the race to sign him, behind Manchester City, who are listed as 9/4 favourites to obtain his signature in the summer.
Bertrand’s exit from Chelsea has coincided with his regular inclusion in the England squad, so a move back there, or to the Etihad, would seem to make little sense at the moment, unless he had the guarantee of first-team football, which is highly unlikely to say the least.
In what will surely be a busy summer transfer window, however, with the league’s biggest clubs looking likely to be extremely active in the market, a move away from the south coast for Bertrand certainly cannot be ruled out.
