Leeds United manager Garry Monk
Leeds United take on Preston North End this weekend looking to keep hold of their play-off spot, as the Lilywhites in eighth have eyes on taking it.
But not many expected Leeds to be in such a lofty position this season. However, after a slow start, the club have thrived under the management of Garry Monk this term.
Not only on the pitch has he worked wonders, but off of it as well.
Coaching Leeds United can always be tough, as weekend coaching rival Simon Grayson will know. The Preston boss was in charge at his boyhood club from 2008 to 2012 and had to deal with the Ken Bates era.
Speaking to the Preston North End website this week Grayson praised the way in which Monk has handled things off the pitch at Elland Road:
Leeds owner Ken Bates at the match
“Garry has done a really good job on and off the pitch.
“He has managed the off the pitch stuff really well and on the pitch they have had a great season. They are desperate to get back into the Premier League and if pre-season you had said they would be in the top six I am sure they would have taken that.”
Controversy has been at a minimum this season, with Monk certainly not one to stir the pot in the media. Leeds’ owner Massimo Cellino has gotten through managers in a devouring fashion in recent years but Monk keeps everything in-house and the rewards are clear to see.
Hopefully the end result will be promotion to the Premier League.
