Aston Villa's Jonathan Kodjia scores his 16th goal of 18 this season
The Daily Mail reports that top flight clubs are keen on Aston Villa striker Jonathan Kodjia - and why wouldn't they be?
At the time of writing, the Ivorian has scored 37 goals in 84 games since moving to English football two summers ago, with seven of those coming in his last seven.
A slow burner, Kodjia's career only really began to take off at French side Angers during the 2014-15 season, which he ended as Ligue 2's player of the year.
Now a 10-cap international, Kodjia is rapidly making up for lost time, and the Premier League is sure to feature in his plans for the near future, with his 28th birthday only six months away.
Given his current rate of progression, a jump to a club like Everton, for example, would not be beyond his reach, and the Toffees could do worse than to consider the six-foot-two frontman should Romelu Lukaku depart this summer. After all, they are already said to have taken an interest in 2016 [Daily Mail].
Though perhaps not as physical as the Belgian, Kodjia's pace and height make him just as awkward for defenders - and are traits that would surely translate at any level.
Villa, though, paid a Championship record £15 million for the 27-year-old and would likely expect a considerable amount more than that to part with their top scorer.
However, with Everton said to want at least £60 million for Lukaku, that's nothing the Toffees couldn't afford.
Everton's Romelu Lukaku in action
Villa look set to miss out on promotion this season, but are sure to be in the mix next term. Whether Kodjia can wait until 2018 for his first taste of the top flight, however, remains to be seen.
And Everton should at least test the water if they find themselves in need of a new centre forward.
Would Kodjia be a good signing for Everton?
