Mauricio Pochettino has told the London Evening Standard that Erik Lamela will play for Tottenham Hotspur again.

Lamela has not been seen in a Spurs shirt since October, with doubts being expressed over his future.

The Argentine winger has suffered with a troublesome hip injury, which has been far more severe than first expected.

Lamela was initially predicted to miss just weeks when he picked up the problem, but a series of complications with the injury have kept him sidelined for months.

And the 25-year-old will now have to undergo surgery to correct the problem - as he has been unable to regain full fitness.

There were some suggestions from Spurs fans that Pochettino could look to move Lamela on in the coming months, due to his fitness problems.

However, the Argentine boss insists that Lamela’s Tottenham career is not over.

He said: “Can he play again for Tottenham? Yes, of course. He is very young and this situation has allowed everyone to speak about different things, but we know very well what is happening and so does he.

“It is a problem in his hip that we have tried to fix in different ways. We have been very conservative but it was impossible to resolve the problem. We hope that the operation will help him do that and that he will be with us again as soon as possible to start his recovery.”

Lamela’s injury means he will have to watch from the sidelines, as his Spurs teammates look to secure their place in the top four.

Tottenham are next in action at the weekend, when they take on Burnley at Turf Moor.
