Tadic is unhappy at Southampton but will Newcastle United listen to their fans and offer him an escape route?

All is not well with Dusan Tadic at Southampton. Previously the club’s go-to creative threat and the recipient of a new four year contract last summer, the future of the Serbian playmaker appears far less secure heading towards the transfer window, The Sun reports.

With just four assists to his name in the Premier League this season, Tadic is enduring his least productive campaign on the South Coast and, after being subbed off for the fifth game in succession against Tottenham Hotspur last time out, he made his feelings towards manager Claude Puel quite clear.

“You can see statistically that we concede or lose when I’ve been taken off,” the former FC Twente talisman, who was replaced in the EFL Cup final before Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s dramatic winner, said in quotes reported by The Sun. “I don’t think this shows enough respect for me.”

One place where Tadic’s subtle vision and velvet touch would be appreciated, however, is St James’ Park. Rafael Benitez is known to be on the lookout for a player capable of adding creativity and skill on the left flank with Yoan Gouffran’s contract due to expire and loanee Christian Atsu set to return to Chelsea at the end of the season.

And Tadic, with eleven goals and 19 assists in his last two Premier League seasons, would certainly fit the bill if he felt it necessary to cut ties with Southampton in the summer. While there is no suggestion yet that Newcastle are looking to take advantage of Tadic’s struggles on the South Coast, Magpies’ fans believe he could be the man they’re looking for.

The fact that he has an excellent relationship with Newcastle’s misfiring striker and Serbia colleague Aleksandar Mitrovic does him no harm either.
