Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp celebrates with Dejan Lovren
Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has told Sportske Novosti in his native Croatia that would he love to see Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic join the Reds.
With the international break upon us, many Premier League players have been travelling around the globe to represent their countries – but Liverpool defender Lovren hasn't been in action for Croatia.
The defender was ruled out of Croatia's games with Ukraine and Estonia as he looks to build up his fitness following a layoff, but he has been speaking about one of his international team-mates.
Lovren has told Sportske Novosti that he would like to see Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic join him at Liverpool, as he feels the winger is a 'top quality' player – but wouldn't know if any deal with the Reds was on the cards.
“We players do not know anything about [transfers] until it happens. That’s always the case,” said Lovren. “But a player like Perisic moving to Liverpool would be great. He is a top-quality player. At Liverpool, all the players would welcome him with open arms. Obviously I do not know if it is true. But what I can say is that he has exceptional football skills, knowledge and a higher than average quality,” he added.
Perisic, 28, starred at Euro 2016 with two goals and one assist in four games for Croatia, whilst he's also grabbed nine goals and three assist for Inter in Serie A this season.
Croatia's Ivan Perisic celebrates scoring
The dangerous winger is being linked with a move to England ahead of the summer transfer window, but a move to Liverpool looks almost impossible due to Perisic's relationship with Anfield boss Jurgen Klopp.
Klopp and Perisic worked together at Borussia Dortmund, but their relationship was fractious to say the least, with Klopp – as quoted by Goal – telling Perisic to 'shut his mouth' amid 'childish' comments about his lack of playing time.
A reunion between the pair looks highly unlikely barring a shock turn of events, and whilst Perisic would add quality to the Liverpool attack, that relationship with Klopp means you should expect to see him lining up alongside Lovren at Anfield any time soon.
