Chris Wood has been the star of the show for Leeds United so far this season. The New Zealand international is the top scorer in the Championship at the moment with 24 goals, three more than Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle.
However, the fact that the 25-year-old striker has scored over 46% of Leeds’ total league goals this season should be a concern going forward. It is important that the Whites have an able back-up striker who can ease the goalscoring burden on Wood.
John Guidetti is a player who would be able to do that. The 24-year-old striker is currently playing at Celta de Vigo in Spain. The Sweden international is not the first-choice striker at Celta, but he has contributed when called upon.
Three goals in 10 starts in La Liga and three goals in nine Europa League appearances is not exactly a bad record, especially when one considers the fact that Celta are in mid-table.
Guidetti’s current contract with the Spanish club runs until June 2020, but perhaps he could be tempted to make the switch to Leeds in the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old failed to make an impact at City, and did not fare too well at Stoke City and Celtic, but his 2011-12 loan spell at Feyenoord showed that he does have potential
Leeds are a big club and Elland Road has one of the best atmosphere in England. True, Guidetti would be playing second fiddle to Wood, but he would get the chance to prove himself again in England.
The West Yorkshire outfit would be taking a gamble on Guidetti, but it could pay off. Just like Wood, the Swedish striker would be hungry to prove himself in England. The former IF Brommapojkarna man would also have the experience of playing in the Premier League.
