Former Aston Villa boss Remi Garde is set to take the reins at Olympiacos, the Birmingham Mail reports. And should the Frenchman's appointment go ahead, there'll be at least one familiar face ready to welcome him in Athens.

One of Garde's first acts as Villa boss was to bring the man in question, another Frenchman Aly Cissokho, back to Villa Park from a loan spell at FC Porto.

The pair had previously worked together at Lyon, and were reunited in the Midlands where Cissokho played every possible minute of his old boss' reign. However, the 29-year-old was once again banished by the Villans after Steve Bruce arrived as Garde's replacement-but-one.

Olympiacos currently have Cissokho on loan until the end of the campaign, and have an option to turn his move permanent 'subject to satisfactory performances', according to Sports 24.

But having started just two of a possible 10 league games for his temporary employers, the left-back could be heading back to Villa Park as things stand.

Given his relationship with Garde, however, Cissokho's fortunes are likely to improve. And that could spell the end of his Aston Villa career, once and for all.
