Tottenham exited the Europa League in disappointing fashion at the last 32 stage, narrowly losing out to Belgian side Gent across two legs, courtesy of a shock loss in Belgium and an inability to make home form count at Wembley.

But Tottenham loanee, and soon to be ex-Spur Nabil Bentaleb's European adventure is only getting started, with the Algerian and his Schalke side marching into the Europa League quarter finals this week.

The midfielder has impressed for the Bundesliga side on a season-long loan, and it was confirmed in February that Schalke had taken up the option to sign Bentaleb permanently this summer once his loan expired.

And Bentaleb, underlined his importance at the Royal Blues on Thursday night to help them past domestic rivals Borussia Monchengladbach in a tight last-16 tie, scoring the penalty that drew them level in the away leg, and subsequently put Schalke through on away goals.

Still only 22-years-old, it was Bentaleb's seventh goal of the season, which, coupled with five assists from 33 games, gives the youngster a hugely impressive return this year. Indeed, he is joint top scorer for Schalke.

His box to box potential wasn't quite realised at White Hart Lane, but it's clear he is someone for Spurs fans to keep an eye on, especially if he ends up lifting the cup that the Londoners were unable to progress in.
