West Ham United have earmarked Sampdoria striker Muriel as a potential summer target, according to reports.

A report in the Daily Mirror has suggested that West Ham have put Sampdoria striker Luis Muriel on their list of summer targets after the 25-year-old's impressive year in Serie A.

Slaven Bilic must surely be targeting a new goalscorer in the summer given the struggles that the current side have endured in front of goal.

No Hammers player has reached double figures in the Premier League this season, with their highest goalscoring forward bagging just six strikes this term.

Meanwhile, Muriel has enjoyed an excellent season in Italy. Sampdoria are on course for a top-half finish and the Colombian's form has been one of the reasons for that.

Muriel has scored 10 and contributed five assists in 28 top flight games, but it appears that the Irons may have to pay a hefty price if they want to bring him to the London Stadium.

The Mirror reports that the striker has a £24 million release clause in his contract, and it may well be that Sampdoria insist that that must be triggered before a deal can potentially take place.

However, given the Hammers' struggles with strikers this season - the likes of Simone Zaza and Jonathan Calleri struggled after arriving in the Premier League - Irons fans may perhaps prefer a name more established in the English game to come in rather than take another gamble.
