Newcastle United and West Ham United are said to be interested in the Napoli man.

According to Belgian newspaper Nieuwsblad, Dries Mertens is a pontential transfer target for both West Ham United and Newcastle United this summer.

Mertens future at Napoli is currently in doubt, despite him enjoying one of the best seasons of his career this campaign.

The 29-year-old has been played up-front by the Serie A side on a number of occasions, and he has scored frequently.

Mertens has hit 24 goals in 35 matches in for Napoli, but his contract is set to expire in 2018.

And both Newcastle and West Ham are touted as potential destinations for Mertens, by the Belgian press.

Newcastle would, of course, have to be promoted to the Premier League to have any chance of landing Mertens.

West Ham, on the the other hand, are likely to be looking to add high profile additions during the summer transfer window.

If either of Newcastle or West Ham could attract Mertens, it would be a real statement of intent for the pair.

Newcastle and West Ham are both expected to have sizeable funds to spend in the next transfer window.
