Rangers have appointed Pedro Caixinha as their new manager as they look to move on from the poor end to the Mark Warburton era.

Undoubtedly the Portuguese will be looking to put his own spin on the first-team at Ibrox. But could one of Warburton’s final transfer signings benefit from Caixinha’s appointment?

The new Rangers boss, who himself is a goalkeeper, might have people chewing off his ear over Jak Alnwick.

The 23-year-old was signed from Port Vale in the winter to act as competition for current number one Wes Foderingham.

At Vale he worked under the management of Bruno Ribeiro. The former Valiants boss is a contemporary of Caixinha. They were managerial opponents in Portugal when Ribeiro was manager of Vitoria Setubal and Caixinha was at Nacional. The pair are also both friends with Manchester United’s ‘special one’ Jose Mourinho.

Alnwick also played at Port Vale with Carlos Saleiro, whom Caixinha worked with at Sporting Lisbon.

So, the Rangers newbie might just have a few friends to lean on if he wants to put pressure on Caixinha to give him a chance at Ibrox.
