With the potential return to the Premier League looking likelier and likelier as the season goes on, HITC Sport has been taking a look at some of the best ever Leeds United comebacks, stretching back over the last 20 years.
The Leeds United fanbase have had to sit through a great number of highs and lows over the last decade or so, but in that time the club have enjoyed some fantastic results, as well as some shockers. Surprising football supporters across the country on more than one occasion. Here's a look at our top three contenders for the title of Leeds United's best ever comebacks.
1. Leeds United 4-1 VFB Stuttgart (September 16th 1992)
Eric Cantona - Leeds United
Trailing 3-0 from the first leg, Leeds United had a mountain to climb in their second game against German giants VFB Stuttgart. returned to to England with a mountain to climb. Goals from Gary Speed, Eric Cantona, Gary McAllister and Lee Champman completed what seemed like an impossible task, leading Howard Wilkinson's side to an historic victory. Despite the sour taste left after it was revealed that VFB Stuttgart broke UEFA rules by fielding an ineligible player in the game, the result still goes down as one of the most memorable in Leeds' history.
2. Leeds United 4-3 Derby County (November 10th 1997)

Despite being three goals down within the first half an hour, Leeds United's impressive forward players inspired an incredible comeback against Derby County when the two sides met in the Premier League in 1997. Goals from Harry Kewell, Rod Wallace, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and a screamer from Lee Bowyer sealed a memorable win.
3. Southampton 3-4 Leeds United (November 19th 2005)

An incredible 20-minute four-goal blitz fired Leeds United to a memorable comeback win at St Mary's. Southampton were in control after Marian Pahars' close-range header and Nigel Quashie's brace, including one penalty, which put them 3-0 up at the break. But the introduction of David Healy with 20 minutes remaining sparked an incredible turnaround by the visitors. First Paul Butler headed in then Robbie Blake tapped home before Healy's chip was handled and he popped in a penalty. Liam Miller side-footed in the winner.
