The Sheffield Wednesday striker failed to convert a late chance for his side.
It was one of those familiar nights for Sheffield Wednesday, where the Owls pressed and probed for prolonged spells but couldn’t overcome a well-drilled and determined opponent.
Relegation battlers Burton Albion were Tuesday night’s irritants, with Jackson Irvine’s superb volley earned them a point following Ross Wallace’s long-range opener.
Before the game, Burton boss Nigel Clough made no secret of his side’s intentions, pointing to recent away draws at Bristol City and Derby County, in which neither side could break them down at all.
And though Wednesday looked destined to fare better once Wallace’s bobbling strike bounced in off the near post, the Owls’ hopes were significantly dashed once they afforded Irvine to much space to in which to do his thing. It was goal number nine for the Australian midfielder this season.

With the hosts’ pressure coming to nothing, and danger man Wallace withdrawn due to injury, head coach Carlos Carvalhal turned to Steven Fletcher to help his side over the line – replacing a busy but frustrated Sam Winnall up front.
As it happens, Wednesday’s best chance fell Fletcher’s way in the game’s dying moments, but the Scotland striker could only steer Vincent Sasso’s cut back over the Burton crossbar.

Having scored just four goals from open play since his free transfer move from Sunderland last summer, it’s fair to say the jury was still out on Fletcher – although, many Owls fans seem to have made up their mind following Tuesday’s cameo:
