Rangers are currently on the hunt for a new head coach, with Mark Warburton leaving in controversial circumstances recently.

The Glasgow club lost to Dundee yesterday, a result that leaves them third in the Scottish Premiership and 30 points behind their Old Firm rivals Celtic in what has been a disparaging campaign at Ibrox.

Plenty of familiar faces from Rangers past have been mentioned, including the ambitious hopes of Frank De Boer arriving at Auchenhowie.

But could Shota Arveladze be a genuine option for Rangers?

The Georgian striker spent four seasons at Ibrox as a player, scoring an impressive 57 goals in 132 games for the club.

After a spell at AZ Alkmaar and with Spanish side Levante the Georgian went on to a successful career in management.

A protégé of Louis van Gaal, Ronald Koeman and former Gers boss Dick Advocaat at AZ he had success at Kayserispor and Kasimpasa in Turkish football.

His last two jobs, with Trabzonspor and Maccabi Tel Aviv did not go according to plan and he is looking for a chance to rebuild his reputation.

Rangers will however struggle to convince many that the Georgian’s arrival would be good for the club.

They will want success immediately and Arveladze’s recent record would suggest that he is not the right man for the job.

But, if it is an ex-Rangers player that is wanted, there are not many better qualified than Arveladze.
