Costil is not the first shot-stopper to be linked with a move to Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic this week.
Rennes goalkeeper Benoit Costil
L’Equipe reports Celtic have observed Rennes goalkeeper Benoit Costil several times this season.
The France international is out of contract this summer, and will leave his current employers for nothing unless he signs a new one before then.
The Bhoys’ alleged interest certainly raises questions over the future of Craig Gordon at Parkhead, with the 34-year-old yet to agree to a new deal of his own.
Gordon is said to have been the subject of several Chelsea approaches in January, having also entered the final six months of his contract.
And while Celtic do have the option to extend the Scotland international’s stay by a further year, Costil’s situation could convince the Bhoys to go in a different direction.
Celtic number one Craig Gordon
The 29-year-old is not the first goalkeeper to be linked with Brendan Rodgers’ side this week, after Dundee’s Scott Bain.
The Daily Record reports Bain has refused the Dark Blues’ offer of a new contract, leaving them no option but to sell the 25-year-old this summer.
Should Celtic try to replace Gordon this summer?
