The Wolverhampton Wanderers defender recently made his 250th appearance for the Molineux club.
Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Richard Stearman made his 250th appearance for the club in Tuesday’s Championship game against Wigan Athletic – with many a team mate eager to congratulate the 29-year-old on his landmark achievement.
Stearman, who is currently experiencing a season long loan at Wolves from parent club Fulham, was helpless to prevent Paul Lambert’s Wanderers from suffering a disappointing late defeat at the hands of relegation threatened Wigan – in what proved to be his quarter of a century showing for the club.
The defender originally joined Wolves from Leicester City in 2008 and played 234 times for his home-town club before departing for Fulham in September 2015. However, after less than a year at Craven Cottage – taking in just 29 games – Stearman found himself back at Molineux in August 2016.
Upon reaching his landmark game, the man in question expressed his sense of honour at representing Wolves with such frequency, whilst many of Stearman’s team mates took to social media platform Twitter to extend messages of congratulations to the central defender.
Amongst the well-wishers were goalkeepers Carl Ikeme and Harry Burgoyne, midfielder and long-time colleague Dave Edwards, current central defensive partner and fellow Wolverhampton boy Danny Batth, and former incumbent Neill Collins – who sent his congratulations from Florida, as the ex-Wolves defender now plays for the Tampa Bay Rowdies alongside Joe Cole.
As for man himself, Stearman told Wolves’ official website that “To have such a long time at this club, the club I’ve grown to love, it’s amazing for me.”
Further, when speaking of his fondness for the club in relation to his permanent future, the defender continued, “If ever I was going to leave Fulham permanently, Wolves would be my number one choice, definitely.”
