Abomination or treasured memento? HITC Sport spoke to Manchester United fans about the much-disputed half and half scarf.
It’s a debate that widely divides and, sometimes, enrages football supporters from the Premier League to the lower divisions. Half and half scarves. Horrible, hilarious or heart-warming? Many football fans will tell you that the half and half scarf is a ridiculous looking item of clothing that they wouldn’t want to be seen dead wearing. However, on those big Champions League nights, buying a half and half scarf can be a perfectly appropriate way of remembering a notable occasion for your chosen team.
So what do fans of one of the Premier League’s biggest teams think? Manchester United fans have been subject to all sorts of awful scarves over the years, some good, some bad, some ugly. To get their thoughts and opinions, HITC Sport went to meet United fans…

“No, one supporter one team” said one Manchester United fan, who didn’t like half and half scarves at all, “you either support one or the other.” Another Manchester United fan quite unexpectedly announced that “whoever’s wearing one should be put down”, an opinion which is not shared by HITC Sport, nor anyone else in the world.
“It’s not acceptable” added another fan, “we’re in Manchester!”
“You’d have to buy one every week” added another Manchester United fan, who was clearly alarmed at the sheer amount of half and half scarves that are kicking about around Old Trafford these days.
“I would never ever buy a half and half scarf” added one more defiant Manchester United fan, “you’re either all for, or none for, United forever!”
