Frank De Boer is one of Europe’s most exciting coaches but would he really take on the Rangers challenge?

On the face of it, a club in crisis appointing a manager who lasted just 14 games at his previous club doesn’t exactly smack of good business.
Yet, Frank De Boer claiming that he would consider taking over at Rangers if the opportunity presented itself, as reported by Sky Sports, has provided a much-needed shot of optimism amidst the gloom at Ibrox.
The positivity was punctuated somewhat when De Boer’s brother Ronald claimed that he would only consider accepting the job at the end of the season, according to the BBC, but the Dutchman stands head and shoulders above the other remaining candidates to replace the recently departed Mark Warburton.
Alex McLeish, Gers boss between 2001 and 2006, would surely represent little more than a stable short-term solution while the less said about Billy Davies and Alan Pardew the better.

De Boer, however, is just 46 and, despite an ill-fated 85 days at Inter Milan, remains one of the most exciting young coaches on the continent. After all, one of the greatest defenders of his generation, who enjoyed a brief period as a player at Ibrox 12 years ago, led Ajax to a historic four consecutive Eredivisie titles between 2010 and 2014.
Barring the Inter ignominy, he has proven himself as a natural born winner throughout three decades in the game.
You can forgive Rangers fans for getting a little excited then.
