St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright is one of the favourites to take over from Mark Warburton at Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers.

St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright has admitted to BBC Sport that he is ‘humbled’ to have been linked with the vacant manager’s position at Glasgow Rangers.

The Ibrox side are on the look out for a new boss, following Mark Warburton’s departure at the weekend.

Warburton left Rangers on Saturday evening, leaving the Light Blues searching for a new man to take over.

Wright has been one of the names linked with the job at Ibrox, but the 53-year-old insists that no official approach has been made.

“I’m humbled by it a bit but it is pure speculation and there’s nothing concrete in anything,” Wright said.

“It’s nice to be mentioned as a possible manager of Rangers but I’m totally focused on trying to get three points and doing the best I can for St Johnstone.

“I was shocked on Friday night when somebody texted me with the news [about Warburton leaving Rangers].

“I always got on well with him and Davie Weir when we played against each other so it’s disappointing to see a manger losing his job.”

Wright has earned widespread praise for the job he has done at St. Johnstone, since he took over back in 2013.

If he was to take over at Rangers, he would inherit a side who are currently in third place in the Scottish Premiership table.

Rangers’ title hopes for this season are already over, and they are locked in a battle with Aberdeen for second spot.

At the moment, Alex McLeish remains the favourite to become Rangers’ next manager, after he admitted that he would find it hard to turn the job down.
