The poll was conducted in the days before Glasgow Rangers announced they were looking for a new manager.

The results from HITC Sport’s poll asking Rangers fans who they wanted as manager next season are in, but with the poll conducted before the surprise turn of events at Ibrox occurred, what percentage of Mark Warburton-backing supporters are likely to be left disappointed?

Poll: Who do Rangers fans want managing them next season?

Here is the top three…

3. Derek McInnes (11%)

Current Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes took 11% of the vote so edged his way into the top three ahead of the likes of Billy Davies (5%), Alex McLeish (9%) and Tommy Wright (10%). He has undoubtedly done a great job with the Dons, and they look to be in a great position to finish second for the third year in a row, having been languishing in the bottom half of the Scottish Premiership table before his arrival.

2. Mark Warburton (22%)

Admittedly, this poll was conducted before Rangers announced on their official website that Warburton had resigned – an action he has since denied making (via BBC Sport) – so the results may have been slightly different had most been voting with the knowledge that his departure would possibly be imminent.Just over a fifth of fans who voted wanted to see Warburton given time after what has been a difficult campaign, but that looks incredibly unlikely following the bizarre events.

Rangers should make audacious move for Sean Dyche

1. Frank de Boer (43%)

Former Rangers man Frank De Boer overwhelming came out on top when Warburton was still in the job, so there is no reason to believe that his share of the votes would increase further now Warburton’s future is so unclear. Having previously managed the likes of Ajax and Inter Milan, he surely has the kind of pedigree that supporters will be looking for if the job is now up for grabs.
