Leeds United star Chris Wood and Ipswich Town’s Tom Lawrence are both in the running.

Sky Sports have announced that both Leeds United star Chris Wood and reported Whites target Tom Lawrence are in contention to win the Championship player of the month award for January.

Polls: Who have been Leeds’ best and worst managers since 2004 ahead of Neil Warnock’s Elland Road return?

Wood was in sensational form during the month, scoring every time he took to the pitch to help Garry Monk’s men to three wins out of four when he featured.

He scored six in those four games, including braces against both Rotherham and Barnsley, while also scoring the winner in the impressive 1-0 victory over Derby County.

But he will have to see off competition from a man that the Leeds hierarchy will probably know quite well. Ipswich Town midfielder Tom Lawrence scored four times in the league during the month, which would have surely strengthened Leeds’ interest in the player – the Chronicle reported during the January transfer window that the Whites wanted the 23-year-old, who is currently on loan from Leicester.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports reports that Cardiff City midfielder Joe Ralls and Brighton goalkeeper David Stockdale are also vying for the award after both enjoyed brilliant spells of form for their respective clubs.

And while Monk may not care too much whether his striker wins the accolade, he will be hoping that the two men joining Wood and Lawrence in the running now go off the boil.

Brighton boost a strong lead over Leeds and the rest of the chasing pack in the race for automatic promotion from the Championship, and Stockdale has been a key reason for their success.

And Ralls’ next performance could have a say in whether the Whites get their promotion push back on track as his Cardiff side travel to Elland Road this weekend.
