The Liverpool striker will reportedly be available for transfer this summer, and West Ham United have been linked with a move.

Reports emanating yesterday suggested that Reds boss Jürgen Klopp has finally lost patience with Daniel Sturridge, and that he plans to sell the 27-year-old in the summer, with the Hammers thought to be leading the race for his signature, according to talkSPORT.

The former Manchester City and Chelsea striker has had to endure terrible luck with injuries over the past few seasons, and has played a peripheral role in Liverpool’s campaign so far this term, making just five Premier League starts for the Merseyside outfit.

And, despite Sturridge’s undoubted talent, West Ham would be best served in steering clear of the England international this summer.

Slaven Bilic already has enough injury-prone players amongst his current setup, with the likes of Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho having missed large chunks of the season due to various different types of injury.

And the addition of Sturridge would surely only exacerbate that problem.

The 27-year-old is not the player he once was, and he seems to have lost the explosiveness that he possessed in abundance during the early stages of his career.

That is obviously partly down to the amount of injuries he has sustained, and considering a striker usually is past his peak after he turns 30, the wisdom in bringing Sturridge to East London would have to be questioned.

This summer’s transfer window will be a hugely important one for Slaven Bilic, and he cannot afford to make any more poor signings.

And if the Croatian wants to bring another striker into the club, he must surely target younger, hungrier players, who have something to prove within the game, rather than making the same mistake he did this summer just gone, by buying someone based on reputation alone.
