The Ivorian international is now playing for Cardiff City.

This weekend sees Leeds United take on Cardiff City in the Championship and in doing so they will be going up against a former club captain.

Sol Bamba will be attempting to keep Leeds at bay when he returns to Elland Road this weekend for the first time since being released by Garry Monk.

Bamba left after falling out of favour with the Leeds boss. Monk signed Pontus Jansson and Kyle Bartley on loan and that left Bamba way down the pecking order and surplus to requirements.

His form at Leeds had dwindled in the months preceding his departure, so not many Leeds fans were that bothered he had left the club.

But he has been a hit in the Welsh capital.

He scored the winning goal on his debut v Bristol City and has gone on to become a rock at the back for Cardiff, managed by former Leeds boss Neil Warnock.

His performances have helped Cardiff climb the table and move away from relegation trouble. This weekend he will be hoping to put a spanner into the works of Leeds United’s promotion hopes in West Yorkshire.

Leeds will hope he does not come back to haunt them.
