Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly failed with a move for Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez.

According to a report from The Times, Tottenham Hotspur failed with a January move to sign Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez.

Spurs were quiet during the January transfer window, with no new signings arriving at White Hart Lane last month, given that manager Mauricio Pochettino rarely makes moves in mid-season.

However, it seems that Tottenham did attempt to make a big-money move in January, having allegedly registered a keen interest in signing a Premier League winger.

The Times report that Tottenham made a move for Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez, but the Foxes rebuffed the enquiry as they attempt to stave off relegation.

Leicester may have won the Premier League title last season, but they are now hovering just above the relegation zone, and needed to keep Mahrez in order to keep themselves out of the bottom three.

Mahrez may not have lived up to last season’s return of 17 goals and 11 assists in 37 Premier League, but seven goals and three assists in the Premier League and Champions League is still a decent return from the Algerian winger.

Such a move would have been a blockbuster January deal, and Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to offer their views on the move, with many suggesting that he would be just what Tottenham need in the final third.

Some believe that Spurs should try again with another move at the end of the season, especially if Leicester suffer relegation, and could replace what Erik Lamela brings on the right of midfield.
