Tottenham Hotspur’s misfiring Dutchman has been linked with a move to the Bundesliga.

After just half a season at White Hart Lane, Vincent Janssen is already being written off as a lost cause by a number of Tottenham Hotspur supporters, placed somewhere between Helder Postiga and Roberto Soldado in the pantheon of Spurs’ striking flops.

And The Express report that Wolfsburg are ready to test the waters with a bid for the £18 million man at the end of the season. By which time he will surely have found the back of the net from open play. Right?

Tottenham's Vincent Janssen looks dejected after missed chance

So far, Mauricio Pochettino has kept faith in the Dutchman, reminding fans of his tender 22 years and the difficulties of adapting to the rigours of the Premier League after arriving from the Eredivisie, a league with a complete disregard for defensive organisation.

However, it’s not that Janssen is missing too many chances, the concern lies with the fact that he appears to lack the awareness to sniff out goalscoring positions. And that, as Alan Shearer has made clear on numerous occasions this season, does not bode well.

Bargain of the season? Stat sums up key man’s importance to Tottenham

It’s certainly not a problem Mario Gomez is lacking. The experienced Germany international, although lacking the vision and all-round skillset of Harry Kane, is one of the most practiced poachers in the European game.

Germany's Mario Gomez reacts

He has made the six-yard box his home, managing better than a goal every other game in almost 500 career appearences.

Therefore, he would appear much better suited as Spurs’ second choice striker, especially with Eriksen, Dele Alli, Heung Min-Son and co laying on chance after chance.

Report: Tottenham could miss out on £16.3m with player thinking twice

Consequently, if Wolfsburg make an enquiry concerning Janssen’s availability, maybe Spurs should attempt to strike a deal.
