He may be only 16 but Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly in the market for the £15 million youngster.
Liverpool are in pole position to sign Fulham’s prodigious left-back Ryan Sessegnon, the Daily Mirror reports, but should the teenager use Danny Rose as inspiration and join him at Tottenham Hotspur?
The 16-year-old has emerged as one of the most startling talents in the British game, his superb individual performance in Fulham’s 4-1 FA Cup battering of Hull City, capped by a well-taken goal and cool-headed assist, only adding to the expectation and, quite possibly, his transfer fee.
The Daily Mirror report that The Cottagers are demanding £15 million for a player who only made his senior debut in August, such has been the rapid nature of his progression.
And the publication adds that Liverpool are in pole position although, according to the Evening Standard, Tottenham have been tracking his development since at least the start of the season, offering a comparatively measly £3 million for his services.
Liverpool may appear quite an attractive proposition due to manager Jurgen Klopp’s belief, almost to a fault, in his young players. This, coupled with the fact that The Reds are still on the lookout for a long-term left-back with James Milner forced to fill in all season, means Sessegnon’s chances of first-team football would not necessarily be damaged by making the step up.

However, perhaps the England under-17 international should be motivated by Rose’s evolution from talented teenager to England international at White Hart Lane.
The 26-year-old was just a few months younger than Sessegnon when he joined Spurs from Leeds in 2007 and, although his route to the top comprised of a fair few loans, he is now arguably the best in his positon in the English game. And he is far from the only gifted youngster to evolve into one of Europe’s best in North London in recent seasons.

Therefore, instead of seeing Rose as a restriction to his first-team hopes, perhaps Sessegnon should view him as an inspiration.
