Everton striker Romelu Lukaku is currently at the top of the Premier League’s scoring charts this season.
Romelu Lukaku has told Everton’s official website that Ronald Koeman has helped take his game to the next level.
Lukaku has been one of the most prolific scorers in the Premier League for a number of seasons now.
However, this season, the Belgian international appears to have become even more clinical.
Lukaku currently leads the Premier League scoring charts, after netting four goals in Everton’s 6-3 win over Bournemouth at the weekend.
And the 23-year-old has revealed that Koeman’s insistence that he works hard on the training ground is helping him develop as a player.
“When he came in [as manager] we had a chat. He told me his ideas, I told him mine, and then he showed me from the start of what he wanted to do,” Lukaku said.
“He wants me to be focused at any time because he knows with my finishing, if I have the ball in the last minute I can decide the game.
“I’m a guy who works really hard on the training ground and I know hard work will pay off. That’s what the manager told me at the start of the season.
“The manager now helps me with the extra details – with pressing, my running off the ball and also the mental aspect of the game.”
When Koeman first arrived at Goodison Park there were fears that Lukaku could opt to move elsewhere.
However, the Dutch boss was able to persuade Lukaku to stay on Merseyside, and he has played a key role for the Toffees this term.
Lukaku has hit the back of the net 16 times in 23 Premier League matches – helping Everton climb into seventh in the table.
