Leeds United, Brighton & Hove Albion, Reading and Huddersfield Town are mentioned by Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez.

Newcastle United may have struggled in recent weeks, but they are at the top of the Championship table at the moment. The Magpies have picked up 62 points from 29 matches so far this season, a point more than second-placed Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Magpies have the strongest squad in the Championship, and they should be able to claim one of the two automatic promotion spots. Manager Rafael Benitez, though, has made it clear that he is not taking anything for granted.

The former Liverpool and Chelsea manager has suggested that Brighton, Reading, Huddersfield Town and Leeds United could all catch them. Benitez, though, has stated that he is focused only on his team and on their own results.

“I’m not really worried about the table,” the Spaniard told The Shields Gazette. “It depends on us. If we carry on winning our games, we will be there. You cannot be watching when you have so many teams around now.

“Reading are doing well. Huddersfield are doing well. It’s not just Brighton. Leeds are doing well. You have to make sure you are doing your job.”

Brighton are Newcastle’s main challengers for the Championship, but Reading, Huddersfield and Leeds all have a chance of closing the gap. With the Seagulls and the Magpies both dropping points in recent weeks, the chasing pack should be aiming for a top-two finish.

It is hard to see Newcastle not ending up in the top two, but given the form that Reading, Huddersfield and Leeds are showing at the moment, Benitez’s side cannot be complacent.
