The young Liverpool defender should be playing ahead of the likes of Lucas Leiva.
Liverpool suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of a resurgent Hull City at the weekend with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp coming in for criticism for selecting Lucas Leiva at the heart of his defence.
The Brazilian has featured at the back a number of times this season, but he has never looked confident and Klopp’s decision is all the more baffling when you consider the presence of Joe Gomez on Liverpool’s bench.

The 19-year-old may have been blighted by an Achilles tendon injury earlier in the campaign but he is now ready to get back out on the pitch and he is a considerably better option than an out-of-place Lucas.
Shortly after moving to Anfield from Charlton Athletic, Gomez proved his quality with a run of matches at full-back, but his natural position is in the centre of defence and it is foolish leaving him on the bench while L ucas gets overrun and sees his reputation among the Liverpool fans diminish with each poor showing.

The Brazilian cannot be blamed; he is only playing where he is asked to. But Klopp needs to trust Gomez. There could be rich rewards if he does.
