The Blues are coasting towards the Premier League title having opened up an eight point lead at the top of the table, with Antonio Conte continuing to press towards the title despite not adding any new faces in January.
He did though attempt to bring in a new goalkeeper. The Mirror report that Asmir Begovic – currently backing up first choice stopper Thibaut Courtois – was set for a move to Bournemouth in January, as long as Conte could bring in a replacement.
Newcastle's Karl Darlow
Celtic's Craig Gordon and Newcastle's Karl Darlow were top targets, but having failed to land either, Begovic wasn't allowed to leave Stamford Bridge, and he remains sat on the bench until the end of the season.
However, it's stated that Chelsea could move again for Darlow over the summer, as they believe that they will have a chance to strike an £8million deal with the Magpies at the end of the season.
Newcastle United's Karl Darlow celebrates
Darlow, 26, joined up with Newcastle in 2015 after the Magpies struck a deal to sign him from Nottingham Forest a year earlier, and he made just ten appearances last season.
This term, Darlow has played 22 times under Rafael Benitez, re-emerging as Newcastle's first-choice goalkeeper having initially lost his place to Belgian international Matz Sels earlier this season.
Now, The Mirror claim that Newcastle still don't necessarily see Darlow as their long-term first-choice goalkeeper – possibly why Sels was signed last summer – and whilst they weren't willing to sell in January, Chelsea have allegedly been given encouragement that a deal could be struck in the summer.
Whether Darlow is so keen to throw away first-team football remains to be seen, whilst Newcastle fans wouldn't be too happy to see Darlow leave, and the Magpies should be looking to keep their goalkeeper rather than look to replace him again.
Would you let Darlow leave at the end of the season?
