The former Rangers striker suggests that Leigh Griffiths could leave Celtic in the summer transfer window.

Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd has suggested in The Scottish Sun that Leigh Griffiths’s time at Celtic could be coming to an end.

Griffiths has been on the books of Celtic since January 2014 and has a contract with the Scottish Premiership outfit until June 2021, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

Former Rangers striker Boyd, now on the books of Scottish Premiership club Kilmarnock, has suggested that Griffiths could leave Celtic in the summer of 2017.

Celtic manager Rodgers was recently quoted as saying by BBC Sport that Griffiths needs to improve his fitness and has to work harder in training.

“Leigh Griffiths won’t thank me for saying this but I really fear for him at Celtic,” Boyd wrote in The Scottish Sun. “With Brendan Rodgers coming out and publicly slaughtering his striker’s professionalism and attitude I worry the writing is on the wall for the wee man.”

“My worry with Griffiths is that he’s not just had one warning from Rodgers but three or four — that the amber warning came long ago from his manager who is now seeing red,” added Boyd. “That’s what jumped out at me when I read Rodgers’ quotes.”

Celtic are at the top of the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 67 points from 23 matches, 24 points clear of second-placed Aberdeen.

The Glasgow giants will take on St Johnstone away from home in the Scottish Premiership this afternoon.
