Celtic tried to bring Henry Onyekuru to the Scottish Premiership during the January transfer window, but should have more luck this summer.

Henry Onyekuru has put Celtic on alert by confirming that he has been told by current club Eupen that he will be allowed to leave in the summer after a dramatic January transfer window, the Daily Record reports.

The 19-year-old is enjoying a stunning season in Belgium – having scored 10 and contributed four assists in the top flight – so has unsurprisingly become one of the most highly sought-after teenagers in Europe.

The Record reports that the Hoops made offers for Onyekuru but were unable to reach an agreement with Eupen, who were without the youngster for the next three games as he went AWOL over the lack of progress regarding a move.

But Onyekuru has now confirmed that a departure is now imminent.

“An agreement was reached with Eupen that I will be allowed to move in the summer to my club of choice. For now, I remain with Eupen until the end of the season,” he said, as reported by the Record.

While Bhoys supporters may be concerned about whether they will win the race for his signature, a previous report from the Record suggests that this latest development should mean that he is Parkhead-bound.

The Record reported earlier in the month that he was willing to reject a move elsewhere in the hope that Celtic make another bid during the next window, so the fact that, by his own admission, he can now join a club of his choice means that the Hoops must be at the front of the queue should they decide to make another move.

And Brendan Rodgers may perhaps be hoping that his form settles down and goes under the radar over the coming months to ensure that he does not come onto the radar of several other sides as that could drive the price up or, even worse, tempt him to reconsider where he wants to move to.
