Everton beat Bournemouth 6-3 in an incredible game at Goodison Park.

Everton hammered Bournemouth 6-3 at Goodison Park this afternoon, with Romelu Lukaku scoring four – and he received plaudits from Tim Cahill after the final whistle.

The Toffees have enjoyed a superb start to 2017, and with Bournemouth in freefall, many were backing Ronald Koeman’s side to rack up another win.

Few could have expected Everton to win in such dominant fashion though, as Romelu Lukaku opened the scoring on 30 seconds with a curling finish, before James McCarthy made it 2-0 as Steve Cook’s clearance cannoned in off the Irishman.

Lukaku grabbed his second before the break, capitalising on some disastrous defending to chip the ball home, though two close-range Joshua King goals in the second half left home fans twitching.

Lukaku’s hat-trick eased nerves, and the Belgian grabbed his fourth by bulldozing past Bournemouth defenders to score, with Harry Arter squeezing the ball home for Bournemouth before Ross Barkley added a sixth for Everton late in the day.

The afternoon belonged to four-goal hero Lukaku, and he now boasts 16 league goals to his name, and 59 league goals for Everton, taking him to second place in Everton’s all-time Premier League goalscoring list.

Lukaku lies just one goal behind Don Hutchison, and overtook Tim Cahill with his stunning performance against Bournemouth – which prompted Cahill to offer congratulations to Lukaku.

The current Everton ace thanked the Australian for his kind words, before Cahill urged Lukaku to go and break Ferguson’s record, which should be achieved in no time if Lukaku performs as he did today.
