Mark Warburton’s Glasgow Rangers could take three years to challenge Old Firm rivals Celtic, suggests Terry Butcher.
Terry Butcher has told Shoot that it could take two or three years before Rangers can start thinking about challenging Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title.
Rangers are playing in the Scottish Premiership this season after getting automatic promotion from the Scottish Championship at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.

The Gers were expected to at least push Old Firm rivals Celtic for the league title this season, but things are not going so well.
Brendan Rodgers’s side are running away with the Scottish Premiership title, and there is a chance that Rangers may not even come second.
Former Rangers star Butcher has suggested that it could take Mark Warburton’s side two or three years to realistically challenge the Bhoys for the league title.

“Well, we are talking about years,” Butcher told Shoot when asked how long it is going to take Rangers to become serious title challengers. “If they want to make a serious challenge, it is going to take two or three years.”

“And in the summer, if they do good business and get good players in, I think they could really take on Celtic [next season],” added Butcher. “But I think it is still a building process, it is going to take two or three years before they can really think about challenging Celtic.”

Rangers fans have to be patient in the coming two or three years. It must be hard for the Ibrox outfit to see Celtic so far ahead, but they should have faith in the club’s chiefs.
The Gers need to finish second in the Scottish Premiership this season, qualify for the 2017-18 Europa League campaign and take it from there.
