Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has not played for Mauricio Pochettino’s since the middle of January.
Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed to BBC Sport that Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen is back running again, as he edges closer to fitness.
Vertonghen has been out since the middle of January, when he rolled his ankle during Spurs’ match against West Bromwich Albion.
The Belgian international was expected to be out for around a month, and he has recovered well so far.

Vertonghen has been in light training this week, and Pochettino confirmed that the 29-year-old is recovering well.
“Jan Vertonghen is better and starting to run, which is very positive,” Pochettino said.
Vertonghen had been in excellent form prior to picking up his injury, and he was playing a key role in Tottenham’s three man defence.

Spurs have reverted to a flat back four more recently, partly due to Vertonghen’s absence.
Spurs are next in action this weekend when they take on Middlesbrough at White Hart Lane, but that match will come too quickly for Vertonghen.
Another Spurs player who is set to miss the contest is Danny Rose, who underwent a knee scan earlier this week, after picking up an injury in Spurs’ last outing against Sunderland.
