The 18-year-old starlet only made his first-team debut in October and reportedly caught the eye of Leeds United.

West Brom midfielder Sam Field has turned down the opportunity to join Leeds United on loan, The Sun reports, but it’s a testament to the strength of Garry Monk’s squad that they won’t be losing too much sleep after missing out on the 18-year-old.

The Sun adds that Championship rivals Barnsley and Brentford had also expressed an interest in signing the teenager (below, right) on a temporary deal though Leeds, fourth in the table and fighting for a famous return to the Premier League, have some quite serious pulling power these days and emerged as frontrunners.

However, even Garry Monk, the man who helped convince Pontus Jansson and former Spain international Pablo Hernandez to swap their loan deals for permanent transfers, was not able to convince Field to take the plunge at Elland Road.

Report: Leeds United would have to pay big for Serie B breakout star

The Sun reports that the talented midfielder, who impressed earlier in the season when given a run in the side in the midst of an injury crisis, wants to fight for his place at The Hawthorns for the remainder of the season.

However, he has featured in less than a minute of top flight football since October and Tony Pulis’ midfield looks increasingly settled, meaning he could spend the remainder of the campaign glued to the bench as Leeds storm to promotion.

Ex-fans favourite reportedly made available; should Leeds United bring him home?

Yet, The Whites are hardly short of midfield options with the likes of Eunan O’Kane, Liam Bridcutt, Kalvin Phillips and Ronaldo Vieira all fighting for two central spots. Therefore, there’s an argument to be made that first-team football would hardly be guaranteed at Elland Road either.
