The Middlesbrough striker has now joined Sheffield Wedensday following clearance by the EFL.
After pining for a move throughout January, Jordan Rhodes has finally left Middlesbrough after securing a move to Sheffield Wednesday in the closing stages of the January transfer window. The striker, who scored 73 goals for Huddersfield Town and 82 goals for Blackburn Rovers, was considered the most lethal striker in the Championship before moving to the Boro a year ago.
His time at Middlesbrough has been difficult, as the striker struggled to nail down a place in the side, or fit into Karanka’s system.

With Fernando Forestieri able to play in the number 10 role, Jordan Rhodes joins a side with the perfect system for his style of play, and might well be about to reignite the kind of form that made him one of the best in the Championship not too long ago.
But have other clubs missed out on what could have potentially been a season-changing signing?
Middlesbrough’s Jordan Rhodes looks dejected
Wolves, who are currently sat 16th in the table, are desperate to start marching up the table under new boss Paul Lambert. After recruiting talented wingers such as Helder Costa on a permanent deal, and Ben Marshall from Blackburn, Wolves are now arguably lacking that lethal, 20-goal-a-season striker to fire them back up the league.
Currently equipped with Joe Mason, Jon Bodvarsson and Nouha Dicko, who has struggled for fitness, they arguably could do with a more reliable Championship goalscorer. Could they have missed a trick by not looking at Jordan Rhodes? The player would fit into Lambert’s 4-2-3-1 nicely and the club certainly have the financial power to have pushed for a move.

Derby County are another club who could have looked to bring in Jordan Rhodes. After being told there’s no chance of bringing back striker Chris Martin from his loan spell at Fulham, Derby currently have Darren Bent, David Nugent and Matej Vydra. With Bent and Nugent not getting any younger, and Vydra seriously struggling for goals, their promotion push could well have been aided heavily by the addition of Jordan Rhodes.

Have both Derby County and Wolverhampton Wanderers missed out? Will their loss end up being Sheffield Wednesday’s gain? Only time, and more importantly, points, will tell.
