Charlie Nicholas has told Sky Sports that he believes Celtic missed out on a brilliant deal for Moussa Dembele in the January transfer window.

Celtic were adamant that they would not sell Dembele last month, despite interest from a number of English clubs.

Chelsea were heavily linked with the French forward towards the end of the month, but Brendan Rodgers’ side remained firm.

Celtic's Moussa Dembele reacts

Celtic insisted that they would not sell Dembele for any price below £40 million, and that put teams off submitting an offer.

However, Nicholas claims that any bid of over £25 million would have been a brilliant deal for the Bhoys.

Brendan Rodgers claims 26-year-old Celtic ace needs to get fit

“If Celtic could have got £25m for Moussa Dembele, I think it would have been a brilliant deal – possibly even a bit over the top – but he’s stayed put for now,” Nicholas said.

Celtic's Moussa Dembele celebrates scoring their third goal

Dembele has enjoyed a wonderful first season in Glasgow, where he has netted 20 goals in 38 appearances.

Dembele is widely regarded as the most exciting young talent in Scotland, and Rodgers has already admitted that he expects to lose the 20-year-old at some point in the future.

Since signing for Celtic last summer, Dembele is still yet to lose in a domestic match – with Rodgers’ side’s unbeaten run now stretching to 27 matches.
