Nottingham Forest are hoping to bring Aston Villa forward Ross McCormack in on loan before the deadline.

According to Sky Sports’ live transfer feed (January 31st 2017; 19:27), Nottingham Forest have reentered negotiations with Aston Villa about a possible loan deal for Ross McCormack after improving their bid for the striker.

Sky Sports reports that the two Championship sides had previously been locked in talks over the structuring of the part of the deal that covers his wages. The Daily Mail reported earlier in the day that Villa had been willing to pay half of his £45,000 a week wages to force through a move on deadline day, but it appears that they could still not reach an agreement.

However, Sky Sports is now reporting that McCormack – who has fallen out with Villans boss Steve Bruce – could still be on his way to the City Ground after Forest increased the loan fee that they were willing to pay for the 30-year-old.

Though McCormack has endured a difficult spell since his £12 million move to Villa Park – he has scored three times since arriving from Fulham – a move to Forest would surely be a good move for the managerless strugglers.

General view inside the City Ground

Forest are currently languishing in the bottom half of the table, just five points above the bottom three, and their top goalscorers have scored just six times in the league all season, while the entire team has scored just one goal in their last five games in all competitions.

And if McCormack can find the form that has seen him forge a reputation as one of the Championship’s most reliable goalscorers – a reputation that has, admittedly, been harmed by his Villa spell – following a switch to the City Ground, then Forest will surely have no problem pulling well clear of the relegation zone.
