West Ham go into transfer deadline day with three permanent signings under their belt, and while Jose Fonte seems to be a decent addition and Nathan Holland is certainly one for the future, there is no question who the Hammers’ marquee signing is.

Robert Snodgrass has joined from Hull City in a deal worth £10.2 million (via BBC Sport) and his form during the first half of the campaign certainly suggests that he will bring something to Slaven Bilic’s side especially as they look to make up for the departure of Dimitri Payet.

The most encouraging aspect of the deal is arguably the fact that the owners appear to have learnt their lesson following a summer window which will not be remembered fondly by those at the London Stadium.
Of the players to arrive, only previous loanee Manuel Lanzini has shown his quality on a regular basis. The others – who, barring a couple of exceptions, boasted no experience in the Premier League before joining the Irons – have really struggled to make any kind of positive impact for the club.
The disappointment surrounding the players who were brought in a few months ago appears to have influenced how the West Ham hierarchy have approached this window, with all three of their permanent acquisitions – who, admittedly, may not be the spectacular names that fans wanted – coming in from top flight rivals.

And while Holland is one for further down the line, the likes of Fonte and Snodgrass have shown themselves to be reliable performers at the highest level in recent times, with the latter especially standing out.

And if they are able to replicate that kind of form for West Ham, then this window may be looked back upon as being as pivotal as the last one, but for considerably different reasons.
