Leeds snubbed

West Bromwich Albion's Craig Dawson and Sam Field in action with Bournemouth's Max Gradel

It’s been a disappointing deadline day for Leeds United so far, and the news that West Bromwich Albion midfielder Sam Field has snubbed them to stay at the Hawthorns will do little to improve the mood around Elland Road (The Sun).

Leeds had wanted to bring Field in to bolster Garry Monk’s ranks, but the youngster does not want to drop to the Championship.

Benitez increasingly confident on Townsend

Crystal Palace's Andros Townsend

Newcastle United are edging closer to completing the signing of Andros Townsend from Crystal Palace, according to the Mail.

Newcastle have been working on a deal to bring the England international back to St. James’ Park all month, and feel they can complete it in the next few hours.

Another Everton man for Sunderland?

Everton's Arouna Kone in action with Real Betis' Petros

David Moyes’ attempts to turn Sunderland into Everton’s feeder club may not have finished just yet, with the Mirror suggesting that Arouna Kone could now move to the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland already have a host of players with Everton connections in Jack Rodwell, Joleon Lescott, Bryan Oviedo and Darron Gibson, but Moyes reportedly feels Kone could enhance his forward line.

Queens Park Rangers are also linked, but they have just signed Matt Smith from Fulham, and are unlikely to make a move for another striker today.

Ulloa rejected

Leicester City's Leonardo Ulloa looks dejected

Sticking with Sunderland, the Black Cats continue to be frustrated in their pursuit of Leicester City’s Leonardo Ulloa (Mail).

Sunderland have made three bids for the Leicester man, but every one has been turned down – much to the striker’s frustration.

Westwood medical

Villa seem to be involved in nearly every deal taking place on deadline day, and they are set to announce the departure of Ashley Westwood soon (Mail).

Westwood has had a successful medical at Burnley and will join the Premier League side for £5 million.
