Sunderland are reportedly keen on Celtic left back Kieran Tierney.

According to The Express, Sunderland are keen to make a move for Celtic left back Kieran Tierney before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

The Black Cats do have a left back already in Patrick van Aanholt, but Crystal Palace boss Sam Allardyce – who managed the Dutchman at Sunderland – confirmed to BBC Sport over the weekend that Van Aanholt is very close to a £14million move to Selhurst Park.

Whilst £14million is a great deal for Sunderland, it does leave manager David Moyes without a left back, and with just over 24 hours to go until the end of the transfer window, the Black Cats need to move quickly to find a replacement.

Now, The Express report that Sunderland are keen on Celtic star Kieran Tierney, who has emerged as one of the top young left backs around over the last 18 months.

A Celtic academy product, Tierney has usurped Emilio Izaguirre as Celtic’s first-choice left back, and the 19-year-old already has two Scotland caps to his name having impressed so much for Celtic.

His displays have unsurprisingly attracted major interest, and Sunderland are now believed to have joined the race, with Moyes – a former Celtic defender himself – believed to be plotting a £10million move for Tierney before tomorrow’s deadline.

It’s stated that Celtic are unlikely to sell now, and that’s the right approach from Brendan Rodgers’ men. They are under no pressure to sell Tierney right now, and not only will his value only grow in 2017, but he’s arguably worth more than £10million already.

For the player himself, a move to Sunderland – who are battling against relegation to the Championship – doesn’t sound too appealing right now, especially given that he can become part of a historic Celtic title win this season whilst also attempting to seal qualification for the Champions League again.

Celtic and Tierney are better off together right now, but that leaves Sunderland scrapping for another left back before the transfer deadline, and Moyes will have to hope and pray that he finds a breakthrough somewhere.
