Aston Villa’s Jordan Ayew is set to join Swansea City.

Swansea City boss Paul Clement has told The Mirror that a deal for Jordan Ayew is ‘close’ to completion, in a deal which will see Aston Villa receive £5million and left back Neil Taylor.

The Swans are desperate for new arrivals to boost their battle against relegation, and they have already snapped up Martin Olsson, Tom Carroll and Luciano Narsingh to aid their cause.

However, even after beating Liverpool 3-2 in their last Premier League game, Swansea still need more signings, and manager Paul Clement appears to be working hard on at least one new face.

Wales Online reported earlier today that Aston Villa and Swansea have agreed a deal that would see Jordan Ayew head to the Liberty Stadium in exchange for £5million and left back Neil Taylor.

Now, speaking ahead of Tuesday’s clash with Southampton, Swansea boss Clement admitted to The Mirror that a deal is close to being done, and that Taylor wants a new challenge at Villa.

“It is not done yet, but it is close to being done,” said Clement. “Neil has been a great servant to this club, but I feel it is the right time for a new challenge for him and he would like to take it,” he added.

Attacker Ayew – the brother of former Swansea ace Andre Ayew – has been used out of position on the left wing for Villa this season, though it’s unclear just where he would play in Swansea’s team.

Currently at the Africa Cup of Nations with Ghana, Ayew hit seven goals in 30 Premier League appearances last season, and could provide a goal boost that Swansea are in need of.

Going the other way is left back Taylor, who joined Swansea from Wrexham back in 2010. A loyal and dependable servant for the Swans ever since his move almost seven years ago, but the signing of fellow left back Olsson means that he’s slipped down the pecking order.

Villa receiving £5million as well seems to be beneficial, but it may mean that current Villa left back Jordan Amavi switches his position to the left of midfield, where his attacking ability and shaky defensive play would be better suited
