Liverpool were beaten 2-1 by Wolverhampton Wanderers this afternoon.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has told TEAMtalk that he felt Wolverhampton Wanderers played ‘really well’ against the Reds in this afternoon’s FA Cup clash at Anfield.
Having lost at home to Swansea City and Southampton over the last week, Liverpool were desperate to avoid a third straight Anfield defeat – but that’s exactly what they got against Wolves.
Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Andreas Weimann celebrates scoring their second goal
Richard Stearman headed home Helder Costa’s right-wing free kick to give Wolves the lead after just 53 seconds, stunning the Anfield crowd, before Costa led a superb counter-attack and fed Andreas Weimann, who rounded Loris Karius and tapped home a second for Wolves before half time.
Liverpool pushed and pushed for a way back into the game but looked vulnerable at the back throughout, and whilst Divock Origi did pull a goal back late on, it wasn’t enough for Liverpool as they crashed out of the FA Cup in shock fashion.

It was another pedestrian performance from a Liverpool side who have won just once in 2017, and that victory came in their FA Cup third round replay against League Two side Plymouth Argyle.
Many will acknowledge that Liverpool are missing star winger Sadio Mane, who is currently at the Africa Cup of Nations on international duty with Senegal, but Liverpool should have had enough quality to serve up a better performance against Wolves.
After the final whistle, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was clearly disappointed with the result, but afforded some praise for opponents Wolves, led by manager Paul Lambert – who visited Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund side for training tips in 2015.
Klopp told TEAMtalk that he felt Wolves played ‘really well’, as they defended resolutely and counter-attacked superbly, led by flying winger Costa, and suggested that it was a fair result in the end.
“We should not forget Wolverhampton did really well,” said Klopp. “They scored the first goal and then defended well, had their counter-attacks and a good plan. We should have played better, so that is a fair result,” he added.
