Liverpool were beaten 2-1 at home by Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.

Liverpool’s week from hell continued this afternoon, as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers in today’s FA Cup clash.

The Reds had been beaten by Swansea City and Southampton at Anfield heading into the game, and it’s now three home defeats in a week after today’s shock loss.

Jurgen Klopp’s men made the worst possible start as Helder Costa’s free kick was headed home by Richard Stearman on 53 seconds, before Costa played Andreas Weimann through on goal, and he rounded Loris Karius to score.

Liverpool did pull back a late goal through Divock Origi, but that wasn’t enough for the Reds to make a comeback, and they have crashed out of the FA Cup in the fourth round, meaning it’s still only one win in 2017 for Klopp’s side – and that came in an FA Cup replay against League Two side Plymouth Argyle.

A number of Liverpool players flattered to deceive at Anfield, with midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum coming in for huge criticism on Twitter during and after the game.

The Dutchman – signed from Newcastle United over the summer – struggled to get into the game and was blasted by supporters, who called him ‘absolutely dire’, with some even claiming that the deal to sign him was ‘daylight robbery’ from Newcastle, and he was even accused of being worse than former Liverpool midfield flop Charlie Adam.

Wijnaldum was particularly criticised for slowing the game down too much, and some were questioning just why Klopp decided to sell Joe Allen over the summer in favour of buying Wijnaldum.

Whilst Wijnaldum struggled, one player who did impress at Anfield was Wolves winger Helder Costa, who not only picked up two assists, but caused Liverpool endless problems throughout with his pace and trickery on the break, as his mazy runs left the Reds defence at sixes and sevens.

Liverpool fans raved about Costa on Twitter, suggesting that he was the best player on the pitch, and urged the club to take a look at signing the 23-year-old winger, who is loan at Molineux from Benfica.
